So far I haven’t been able to successfully grow Turmeric here in the U.K. but to be fair I haven’t tried very hard. Up until this season I haven’t had a greenhouse or polytunnel so I didn’t bother. Turmeric grows in the tropics, not in temperate parts of the world. But I have decided I am going to try planting turmeric along with ginger and see what happens. The health benefits of both these spices are remarkable but especially turmeric for inflammatory issues.
Turmeric is a vibrant yellow spice derived from the roots of the Curcuma longa plant and has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine for its medicinal properties. It contains curcumin, the primary compound responsible for its health benefits.
Here are some of the potential benefits of turmeric:
Anti-inflammatory properties: Curcumin has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory effects, which may help reduce inflammation associated with various conditions, including arthritis, digestive disorders, and skin conditions.
Antioxidant activity: Turmeric is rich in antioxidants, which can help protect cells from damage caused by harmful free radicals. This may contribute to a reduced risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders.
Improved brain function: Studies suggest that turmeric may enhance cognitive function and memory. Curcumin has been found to cross the blood-brain barrier and may have neuroprotective effects.
Support for digestive health: Turmeric can help improve digestion by stimulating the production of digestive enzymes. It may also help alleviate symptoms of digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
I am just getting through a pretty intense bout of flu and first days I drank my Turmeric Tonic concoction. A part from it containing all amazing ingredients it tastes really good so if you think you may be going down with something or just need an Autumn immune boost have a Turmeric Tonic. You won’t regret it!
